A spokesman of the Health department Punjab has contradicted the news item regarding the death of a patient Sajjad due to dengue fever in Lahore General Hospital (LGH). The spokesman said that the patient was brought to the LGH on October 21 with the complaint of fever and loose motions.
According to the doctors of LGH, on check-up of the patient, weakness of lower half of the body was noticed. On investigation blood sugar of the patient was very high and potassium level was low while liver function tests were also not normal. He was diagnosed as a case of "Gullian Baari Syndrome", a nerve and muscles disease, in which weakness of body starts from legs and progresses upwards and when respiratory muscles are involved, survival become difficult.
According to the doctors' report, the patient Sajjad was admitted in ward and treatment was given accordingly. However, on breathing problem he was shifted to ICU on ventilator. But, besides taking all life saving steps and treatment, the patient could not recover and died on October 22 at 12:30 am.
