Tameer Hyderabad Alliance comprising of the PPP, JI, JUI, JUP and others has demanded the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to hold upcoming local bodies' election under the supervision of the army for ensuring fair and free elections.
Addressing a press conference at Hyderabad Press Club on Wednesday, representatives of the alliance Zahid Bhurgari, Hafiz Tahir Majeed, Khalid Hussain Dhamrah, Usman Kenedi, Muhammad Younus and others demanded that CCTV cameras be installed at election booths in every polling station. They alleged that many candidates had been elected unopposed by using their influence and pressurising their opponents.
"The MQM has used all kinds of influence to make its candidates successful in 20 union committees and such results should be declared null and void," they blamed. ROs were so pressurised by the workers of the MQM as they did not hear any complaints regarding the rigging, they said. They urged the government to take remedy measures for resolving such issues so that real representatives could be elected for strengthening democracy.
