"The Technical and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) will achieve its target to train 200,000 youth at the end of the current year. The introduction of demand-driven short courses with the collaboration of the industry and placement of its pass-outs in the country and abroad, especially in Middle East countries, are our main focus. We're doing our best to introduce a technical education and vocational training system throughout the province," Tevta Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said this in his address to a 35-member delegation from the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry at the authority's secretariat on Thursday.
He said "Our pass-outs will play a vibrant role in boosting the national economy and growth of the industry. Industrialists, entrepreneurs, manufacturers and service providers are the backbone of the economy." While narrating his vision about development and performance of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training sector, Chairman Sheikh said, "The organisation has initiated the short courses to train the manpower as per industry demand. It is signing memoranda of understanding with different organisations to offer the courses. The purpose of these agreements is to train the youth as per requirement of the industry so that the pass-outs may be absorbed easily in the concerned industries. It is also launching a scheme next month to provide an interest-free loan to its 8,000 graduates through Akhuwat."
In a speech LCCI President Sheikh Arshad said, "The industrial sector needs skilled manpower with knowledge and expertise to meet the challenges of present era. The chamber and Institutions, such as Technical and Vocational Training Authority, will now work out a comprehensive plan to identify the shortcomings in technical education. Both have also agreed to expedite co-operation and co-ordination to ensure provision of quality skilled manpower to the industry. Both will also make collective efforts to ensure the provision of skilled workforce to the local industry."
