Survey teams have started collecting the data of damages in earthquake-hit areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhawa to make reliable estimate of loss of property and infrastructure so that rehabilitation activities could be undertaken.
Federal Minister for Information Pervaiz Rashid and Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Major General Asghar Nawaz while addressing a press conference here Friday said that five teams have been deputed in each union council to expedite the work.
Rashid said that all provinces have been advised to carry out verification of damages/losses in their respective areas which is to be completed by Sunday, 1st November, 2015.
He said payment of compensation to the victims will commence from November 2 and is required to be completed by November 5. The NDMA requisitioned helicopter (with KP govt) carried out missions and evacuated 55 persons, and also carried 5000-kg of relief items.
They said the teams consist of representatives of Pakistan Army, Local Government representatives and the District Administration. The KP government has released over Rs2.8 billion to concerned deputy commissioners officers for distribution among affected people.
Chairman NDMA said that 11,000 tents have been provided in Malakand and 3,000 in FATA. Ten generators have also been provided in Chitral. He said eight helicopters, three C-130s and two Fokker aircraft are engaged in relief activities.
Three relief camps and 27 distribution points have jointly been established by Pakistan Army and the District Administration in the affected areas.
He said 2,120 injured were treated in government hospitals and discharged while 276 are still admitted in different health facilities.
In view of ongoing rescue and relief efforts in response to October 26, 2015 earthquake mostly affecting areas in KP, FATA, Gilgit Baltistan, AJ&K and Punjab, NDMA has extended all possible assistance to all Provinces and FATA.
While as per Pakistan Metrological Department about 67 aftershocks with magnitude ranging from 2.5 to 5.3 on Richter scale have been recorded so far. NDMA and all associated departments are mobilising maximum possible assistance for the earthquake affectees.
Chairman NDMA Major General Asghar Nawaz along with a field team visited Malakand Division on 29 October 2015 Bajaur Agency today to monitor relief activities and compensation verification process.
Following Measures have been taken by NDMA to ensure timely response: (i) Satellite imageries from SUPARCO and aerial photography/survey from Pakistan Air Force received. (ii) Analysis indicated that no wide spread damages have occurred.
As per NHA, all National Highways are opened for traffic. All telecommunication networks have been restored.
For awareness purpose, NDMA is timely issuing precautionary SMS Alerts through PTA in the areas of Shangla, Upper Dir, Chitral and Bajaur Agency.
In order to assess ground situation and ascertain relief efforts, PM along with Chairman NDMA, Chairman NHA and concerned Ministers visited Shangla on 27th October, 2015. Later on 28 October 2015 and has visited Chitral and Peshawar.
NDMA team was deputed in Chitral to assess the situation on ground and oversee relief operation.
National Emergency Operation Centre of NDMA remains activated since the onset of earthquake and is functioning 24/7.
So far, the NDMA has released 15,550 blankets, 8,750 tents, 3,500 plastic mats, 14,000 tarpaulin shelter, 11 tons of food packs and 14 tons of bottled water and 1 generator set for the earthquake victims.
