Private analytics firm Informa Economics raised its estimates of the US 2015 corn and soyabean crops on Tuesday, trade sources said. The firm projected US 2015 corn production at 13.718 billion bushels, with a yield of 170.1 bushels per acre (bpa). The figures are above Informa's October 2 estimates for a 13.561 billion-bushel crop with a yield of 168.4 bpa. If realised, Informa's yield at 170.1 bpa would be the second-highest in US history, after last year's record yield of 171.0, according to the US Department of Agriculture.
Informa raised its soyabean yield estimate to 47.9 bpa, from 47.2 last month. The new yield estimate would be the highest in US history if confirmed, topping the record 2014 yield of 47.5 bpa. Informa upped its soyabean production forecast to 3.952 billion bushels, also a potential record, from 3.878 billion in October.
