Punjab Bar Council (PBC) has announced strike on Monday to register their protest against cancellation of Iqbal Day's as public holiday on November 9. Lahore Bar Association also supported the call of the provincial bar council and announced to boycott the court's proceedings on Iqbal Day. However, Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) did not welcome the strike call.
President LHCBA, Pir Masood Chishti said there was no reason to observe strike on Iqbal Day. PBC vice chairperson, Farah Ejaz Baig said the lawyers in the province would not plead their cases before the courts and observe Iqbal Day as per tradition. LBA president Chaudhry Ishtiaq A. Khan said the federal government by cancelling the holiday of November 9 negated the national ideology. He said the LHC should have not cancelled the holiday in light of the government's notification.
