Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali on Saturday paid rich tributes to the founder of Horticulture Society of Pakistan (HSP) and Baba-e-Baghbani late A.K Khan. Speaking at a condolence meeting held at Garden Centre P2 at DHA, the CJP said that Khan Sahib, who was awarded Sitara-e-Imtiaz and died at the age of 96, dedicated his entire life for promoting horticulture.
Talking about his relationship with late A. K. Khan, he said that Khan Sahib was just like father figure to him since 2002 when he was planning to maintain a garden at his residence. "Khan Sahib strongly desired to see me as CJP, but unfortunately he died four days before I took charge as CJP," he deplored. Suggesting that a competition named after Khan Sahib be organized, on a regular basis, the CJP said that he will extend his full support in this regard.
Speaking on the occasion, Lieutenant General Jehanzeb Arbab (Retd) said that Khan Sahib had made tireless efforts in making Karachi a `Garden City of Pakistan'. He also announced that constriction work of a 'Botanical Garden' which was initiated by late A K Khan in DHA Phase-VIII will be accomplished. Earlier, MPA Mehtab Akber Rashidi, Adnan and Khan Sahib's granddaughter Zainab Salman Khan, in their brief speeches, eulogized the services of late A.K. Khan in the field of horticulture. People belonging to different walks of life, including renowned writer Mushtaq Ahmed Yousufi, attended the condolence meeting.
