The prices of most of the essential kitchen items witnessed an increase in the past week as compared to preceding week, reveals a survey conducted by Business Recorder here on Saturday. The survey observed that peas and shimla mirch price increased by Rs 20 per kg from Rs 140 per kg to Rs 160 per kg, while in wholesales market shimla mirch price witnessed an increase of Rs 100 per 5 kg from Rs 600 per 5 kg to Rs 700 per 5 kg as well as peas price went up by Rs 80 per 5 kg in the wholesales market from Rs 650 per 5 kg to Rs 730 per 5 kg.
The survey observed that the price of chicken in the wholesales market enhanced by Rs 1,600 per 40 kg from Rs 4,000 per 40 kg to Rs 5,600 per 40 kg, while in retail market live chicken is being sold at Rs 150 per kg against Rs 110 per kg and the chicken meat is being sold at Rs 280 per kg against Rs 230 per kg. Green chilli price has witnessed a sharp hike of Rs 400 per 5 kg from Rs 350 per 5 kg to Rs 750 per 5 kg in wholesales market, which in retail market is being sold at Rs 150 per kg against Rs 80 per kg.
Carrot price reduced by Rs 50 per 5 kg in wholesales market from Rs 200 per 5 kg to Rs 150 per 5 kg which in retail market is being sold at Rs 50 per kg against Rs 60 per kg. Bringal price went up by Rs 10 per kg from Rs 50 to Rs 60 per kg in retail market, but in wholesales market the commodity is available at Rs 200 per 5 kg.
Cabbage price remained on high slide with an increase of Rs 10 per kg from Rs 40 per kg to Rs 50 per kg, which in wholesale market is available at Rs 200 per 5 kg and cauliflower price also went up by Rs 20 per kg from Rs 30 per kg to Rs 50 per kg. Onions price increased by Rs 25 per 5 kg in wholesales market from Rs 275 per 5 kg to Rs 300 per 5 kg, which in retail market available at Rs 65 per kg against Rs 60 per kg.
According to traders at wholesales market Pakistan is exporting huge quantity of onions to East Asian countries as a result of low produce in India, thus local commodity prices are on high slide. Spinach price registered an increase of Rs 5 per kg from Rs 20 per kg to Rs 25 per kg, okra increased by Rs 25 per kg from Rs 55 per kg to Rs 80 per kg and karela price went up by Rs 20 per kg from Rs 80 per kg to Rs 100 per kg.
According to survey, Tori is available at Rs 70 per kg against Rs 60 per kg in the preceding week , arvi at Rs 50 per kg, kaddu at Rs 60 per kg and maro kaddu at Rs 60 per kg. Prices of entire range of pulses also remained unchanged as mash pulse being sold at Rs 220 per kg; Masoor is being sold at Rs 160 per kg, gram pulse at Rs 120 per kg and Mong at Rs 155 per kg.
Cucumber prices in wholesales market reduced by Rs 100 per 5 kg from Rs 300 per 5 kg to Rs 200 per 5 kg, which in retail market, is being sold at Rs 60 per kg against Rs 80 per kg. It was observed that lemon price reduced by Rs 10 per kg from Rs 90 per kg to Rs 80 per kg in wholesales market, which in retail market is being sold at Rs 100 per kg against Rs 120 per kg.
Ginger price in wholesales market witnessed a reduction of Rs 300 per 5 kg from Rs 800 per 5 kg to Rs 500 per 5 kg while in retail outlets is being sold at Rs 140 per kg, garlic price in wholesales reduced by Rs 200 per 5 kg from Rs 1,000 per 5 kg to Rs 800 per 5 kg and in retail outlets is available at Rs 180 per kg.
Tomatoes price went up by Rs 100 per 5 kg in wholesale from Rs 270 per 5 kg to Rs 370 per kg, which in retail market is being sold at Rs 80 per kg against Rs 60 per kg. Price of potatoes remained unchanged as good quality potatoes are available at Rs 140 per 5 kg in wholesales market, which in retail market are being sold at Rs 40 per kg and normal quality potatoes are being sold at Rs 120 per 5 kg, which in retail market are being sold at Rs 30 per kg.
Milk is being sold at Rs 85 per kg, wheat flour at Rs 785 per 20 kg bag; there is no change in the prices of all the brands of rice as good quality Basmati is being sold at Rs 125 per kg, broken Basmati at Rs 70 per kg. While prices of entire range of the spices, tea packs and bread remained stable in the market. The survey observed decline in fruits prices as guava is being sold at Rs 50 per kg against Rs 60 per kg, apples in the range of Rs 80-150 per kg depending on quality against Rs 100-180 per kg, grapes are being sold at Rs 100 to Rs 150 per kg against Rs 150-250 per kg. The survey observed that different qualities of local banana are being sold in the range of Rs 40 to Rs 80 per dozen against Rs 80 per dozen to Rs 100 per dozen and pomegranates are being sold in the range of Rs 100-140 per kg.
