The military leadership on Tuesday expressed its concerns over progress of implementation on National Action Plan, finalisation of Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) reforms and the ongoing JITs. According to ISPR, a Corps Commanders conference headed by Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif was held here on Tuesday. An exhaustive review of internal security situation was carried out.
The corps commanders further discussed the upcoming visit of Chief of Army Staff to the US, where he will clearly highlight Pakistan's perspective of new emerging regional realities. "Progress of National Action Plan's implementation, finalisation of FATA reforms, and concluding of all ongoing JITs on priority, were highlighted as issues, which could undermine the effects of operations," ISPR stated.
While appreciating the progress of ongoing operations and Intelligence-Based Operations (IBOs), their achievements and effects, General Raheel Sharif acknowledged full support of the nation for country's ongoing operations to eliminate terrorism and extremism. The Chief of Army Staff, however, underlined the need for matching complimentary governance initiatives for long-term gains of operation and enduring peace across the country.
The CoAS also directed to expedite return of Temporarily Dislocated Persons (TDPs), overcoming all obstacles for development works in affected areas and rehabilitation of all displaced families. The Corps Commanders' meeting was held after Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif had chaired a high-level meeting on Monday. The agenda of Army Chief's visit to the United States (US) and security situation were reviewed in the meeting. Adviser to PM on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz told the participants that during the PM's visit to US, authorities had presented evidence related to terrorism being conducted by Indian intelligence agency in Pakistan.
