Bearish sentiments dominated on the Lahore Stock Exchange on Tuesday and the equities suffered losses amid sluggish trading trend. The LSE-25 index lost 89.25 points to 5608.51 against 5697.76 of Monday while transaction volume squeezed to 378,200 shares compared with the day earlier volume of 465,000 shares. The market opened on a mixed note but could not sustain as investors started profit taking in Sui Northern, Byco Petroleum, Dewan Cement, pace Pakistan, K-Electric, Dewan Farooq Motors, Summit Bank, Bank of Punjab and Faysal Bank.
However, a few companies like Tri Pack Films, Southern Electric Power, Japan Power and NIB Bank resisted pressure and ended in green zone. The losers were more than the gainers, as out of a total of 65 active issues, four companies posted gains, 14 stayed in negative column while 47 companies remained unchanged at their previous closing.
Tri Pack Films gained Rs 3.55 while Southern Electric and Japan Power were up by 16-paisa and 15-paisa, respectively. In the minus column, Noon Pakistan lost Rs 9.69, while Sui Northern and Byco Petroleum were down by Rs 1.65 and Rs 1.03, respectively. Pace Pakistan with trading of 144,000 shares topped the volume leaders followed by Byco Petroleum with 64,500 shares.
