Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has yet not received funds from the federal government for earthquake-hit areas, however, the provincial government made releases of Rs 8.5 billion from its own resources for the affected districts. This was stated by Special Assistant to Chief Minister for Information, and provincial spokesman, Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani while talking to media persons here on Thursday.
He said the provincial government had so far released Rs 8 billion funds for earthquake-affected districts, out of which Rs 2.5 billion had been utilised for relief activities. He, however, said the federal government had not released a single penny for earthquake-affected districts of KP.
The federal and provincial governments announced a special compensation package for the quake victims. As per special package announced for earthquake-hit people in KP, the compensation for death is Rs 600,000, for grievous injury/permanent disability Rs,200,000, for complete house damage Rs 200,000, for partially house damage Rs 100,00, and for loss of limb/leg Rs 200,000.
Owing to the high-rains and snowfall, the people are facing hardship in earthquake-hit areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to locals. They said a very cold weather along with rain / snowfall in the earthquake affected areas of KP and Gilgit Baltistan, dropping the mercury below zero at places to added miseries to the victims and hamper relief work.
The spokesman said the compensation amount had been disbursed among heirs of more than 227 people, and nearly 368 injured in devastating earthquake of October 26. The Special Assistant said as many as 562 schools had been damaged in the earthquake affected districts. He said the assessment survey of some remote affected districts had not been received yet, adding that directives issued to all deputy commissioners to complete aid distribution process by November 25.
He said there were some fraud cases unearthed in affected districts, including seven cases in Shangla, out of which First Investigation Report (FIR) was filed against one, while investigation of remaining six cases, is still underway. Likewise, he said in Patwari area of Swat, four cases of fraud were reported, while in Tank two fraud cases relating to fake-house damaged were appeared. Similarly, he said in district Haripur, 1638 cases of claimers have rejected.
