Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that the provincial government has no objection over the deployment of troops in most sensitive polling stations. However, he said that the Sindh government had also taken measures to maintain law and order during the next phase of Local Bodies elections. The Chief Minister was speaking to media persons after performing the stone-laying ceremony of Rs 750 million Korangi Crossing Flyover project, here on Thursday.
The CM was accompanied by Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Shah and Principal Secretary to CM Alamuddin Bullo. Administrator Karachi, Sajad Abbasi, Municipal Commissioner, Sami Siddiqui and others were also present on the occasion. Qaim said that necessary security arrangements had been made in 15 districts for the next phase of LB election. "Only two districts, Sanghar and Badin, have been declared most sensitive, while in the remaining 13 districts, some union councils have been declared sensitive," he added.
He said that necessary measures had been taken to provide fool-proof security in the districts. However, he added that "we have no objection if army is deployed to aid the civil administration." Replying to a question, the chief minister said that he had informed Pir Pagara about the action against the culprits of Daraza Sharif incident and also discussed with him the security measures to hold peaceful LB elections. "I am sure he (Pagara) is satisfied," Qaim added.
The CM said that his government had already requested the Chief Justice of Sindh High Court to appoint a judge to conduct judicial inquiry into the tragic incident of Daraza Sharif. About the Korangi Crossing flyover, he said that it was 408 meters in length and being built for Rs 750 million. The project, he added would be completed in 12 months. "The LG minister is working hard and will personally monitor progress of the project," Qaim said.
