Pakistan People's Party (PPP) on Friday alleged that conglomerate of terrorists' patrons including Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Lyari gangs and other anti-PPP forces have join hands against the party to oust it from the election process. Addressing a press conference, President PPP Karachi Syed Najmi Alam said that PPP-led government had launched targeted operation in Karachi against terrorists, extortionists, target killers, which helped improve law and order in the city.
He said during the targeted operation, majority of terrorists, extortionists and target killers belonging to MQM and Lyari gang war were arrested or executed in encounters with the law enforcement agencies. He further stated with as the third phase of local bodies elections in Sindh especially in Karachi is nearing, the conglomerate of terrorists' patrons including the MQM and other anti-PP forces have been united to oust PPP from the process of electioneering." They have now using all negative tactics to malign the PPP so as to steal the PPP's mandate but they would face a shameful defeat," he added.
He claimed that on Thursday MQM 'terrorists' had forced PPP candidate Iqbal Sand in Korangi to hoist MQM flag on his residence and for refusal, they threatened him of dire consequences. He said that MQM was involved in harassing PPP workers across the city, adding that MQM Unit in-charge of unit 78 in Korangi Muhammad Nasir and Junaid and Amir Siddiqui of Baldia Town were involved harassment and intimidation of PPP workers.
He said that over 100 PPP activists had so far fallen victim of MQM's terrorism. In another incident, Alam said, terrorists had attacked the sons of PPP City Area president and chairman candidate from UC 8 Lyari, Haji Abdul Majeed and also attacked PPP Labour Bureau Sindh General Secretary Aslam Samoo.
He categorically stated that the terrorists would solely be responsible for any loss to PPP workers because the people of the city were satisfied with the ongoing targeted operation in Karachi and want to use the power of the ballot freely. He said the people of Karachi would play their role for strengthening of democratic institutions. Najmi Alam demanded of the Sindh Home Minister Suhail Anwar Sayal, Director General Rangers and IG police to take notice of the activities of terrorists and eliminate them for allowing the people of the city to cast their votes freely. PPP Karachi Division General Secretary Nadeem Bhutto, PPP Sindh chapter Secretary Information and special co-ordinator to Chief Minister Waqar Mehdi, Rashid Rabbani and other were also present.
