The Karachi Port handled 183,213 tonnes of cargo comprising 155,838 tonnes of import cargo and 27,375 tonnes of export cargo including 4,464 loaded and empty containers during the last 48 hours ending at 0700 hours on Monday. The total import cargo of 155,838 tonnes comprised of 69,351 tonnes of containerised cargo; 2,058 tonnes of general cargo; 35,674 tonnes of bulk cargo: 29,636 tonnes of coal; 2,718 tonnes of DAP; 3,320 tonnes of SB meal and 48,755 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 27,375 tonnes comprised of 26,299 tonnes of containerised cargo; 76 tonnes of general cargo and 1,000 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 4,464 containers comprising of 2,875 containers import and 1,589 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday. The break-up of imported containers shows 1,343 of 20's and 556 of 40's loaded while 56 of 20's and 182 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 723 of 20's and 139 of 40's loaded containers while 296 of 20's and 146 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were twelve ships namely Kota Lembah, Hyundai Freedom, SSL Trust, Fowairet, High Jupiter, Carolina Wind, Frontier Leader, Cygnus Ocean, BW Columbia, Ken Sirius, Common Faith and IVS Pinehurst carrying containers, oil tankers, seeds, meal, chemical and coal respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were eight vessels viz. OEL Dubai, Kota Kaya, Hanjin Scarlet, SSL Trust, Mari Ugland, United Stars, Ocean Hope and Liberty Promise carrying containers, oil tankers, soyabean meal, fertiliser and vehicle respectively currently at the berths.
There were four ships namely OEL Dubai, Kota Kaya, DL Violet and Zhen Hua-15 carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea on Monday while another ship namely Hanjin Scarlet carrying containers is expected to sail on Tuesday. There were three vessels viz. Bomar Spring, APL Japan and Corvette carrying containers respectively due to arrive on Monday while five vessels viz. OOCL California, Ever Radiant, Grand Race, Genuine Ace and Hong Prosperity carrying containers respectively are due to arrive on Tuesday.
