Reproving one of anti-cultural value of cyber regime in Pakistan on Wednesday, the Supreme Court termed ''girlfriend culture'' as a ''custom of the West''. Rejecting after-arrest bail application filed by an accused Muhammad Munir, apprehended under the charges of blackmailing girls through Facebook, a three-member bench led by Justice Amir Hani Muslim said ''girlfriend culture'' has nothing to do with our values.
During the course of proceedings, Munir''s counsel pleaded that his client was innocent, saying the complainant girl and the accused are relatives; to which the bench observed that Facebook has ruined the culture of our society. Later, the bench asked the prosecution to furnish challan of Ahmad before the trial court in 14 days whereas the court was directed to decide the matter in six months.
