Ban on coverage: Pemra asked to file reply by December 8

The federal government and the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) has been issued a notice by Lahore High Court to reply by December 8 in response to a petition challenging a ban on the media coverage of organisations, the Amatud Dawa and the Falah-i-Insaniat Foundation. On Wednesday, petitioner Hafiz Muhammad Saeed's counsel, A K Dogar, argued that the organisations were charitable and that they had no connection whatsoever with the outlawed terror group, Lashkar-i-Taiba.
The counsel also made it clear that the Amatud Dawa had set up 142 schools and four universities in various cities and that on November 2 the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority had told all television channels that they must not carry out coverage of proscribed organisation, including those of his client.
