During ongoing excavation on ancient Sikandar South in D I Khan, conducted by Directorate of Archaeology and Museums Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in collaboration with the Department of Archaeology, University of Peshawar, has discovered remains of Indus civilisation.
A team of archaeologists has engaged in digging on unique site of Sikandar South in D I Khan, discovered relics of Sindhi civilisation. The important aspect is that KP areas of D I Khan and Bannu are rich in archeological artifacts, said Dr Abdul Samad, Director Archaeology and Museums Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in a press statement here on Wednesday.
He said the Department has initiated excavation jointly with Archaeology Department, University of Peshawar, a month ago, through which made discoveries of Harapa and Indus valley.
Dr Samad, who is also project Director, said that Gomal valley of KP is rich in Archaeology and revealed evidences of the origin of Indus valley civilisation. This site excavation has proved that KP is birthplace of Indus valley civilisation, he said. "We have found remains of almost 2600 BC contemporary to Indus valley civilisation", he informed. Similarly, he said a survey was also completed in district Buner, wherein hundreds of archaeological sites have been registered
Dr Zakirullah from Department of Archaeology Peshawar University said the site of Sikandar south located in D.I.Khan is unique and eminent. Secretary Archaeology, and Museums, Azam Khan said that the provincial government is committed to protecting and preserving the ancient archaeological remains and other historic places in the province. He said, "We are making all out efforts to promote our rich-traditions, culture, importantly old heritage and archaological sites.
