Former Indian Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri's son Anil Shastri and his spouse on Thursday met members of the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs. Anil Shastri accompanied by his wife and a retired Indian military officer, whose name could not be ascertained, made a courtesy call on the chairperson of the committee Nuzhat Sadiq at Parliament House and also shook hands with members of the committee.
Nuzhat Sadiq presented a photograph from the past memory of her father with the then Indian Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri and Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto [then foreign minister during President Ayub Khan's tenure] which was captured in Karachi. The visiting Indian guests remained at the committee hall for some time and also exchanged views with the members on a light note. The committee members along with Prime Minister's Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz also posed for a group photograph with the visiting guests.
Interestingly the Indian guests entered the committee room when Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs and other senior Foreign Office officials including Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry were briefing the panel on the dossiers that have been shared with the UN and US pertaining to Indian spy agency RAW involvement in terrorism in the country.
However, the discussion on the RAW's involvement in the terrorist activities was paused for a while when the Indian guests were escorted to the committee room by the protocol staff of the Senate. Anil Shastri's father Lal Bahadur Shastri had led India during the 1965 war against Pakistan.
