Senior leader of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Makhdoom Amin Fahim passed away in Karachi on early Saturday morning after a protracted illness. He was suffering from blood cancer.
BR staff reporter from Hyderabad adds: He was laid to rest in the shrine of Hazrat Ghausul Haq Sarwar Nooh near the grave of his father, Makhdoom Mohammad Zaman Talib ul Moula on Saturday evening. His funeral was attended by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, opposition leader Khursheed Shah, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, former premier Raja Pervez Ashraf, Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani, Aftab Shaban Meerani, Senator Saeed Ghani, Senator Aajiz Dhamra, MNA Ameer Ali Shah Jamot, MNA Roshan Junejo, provincial ministers Manzoor Wassan, Jam Khan Shoro, Advisor to CM Sindh Dr Abdul Qayoom Soomro, members of bereaved family, other prominent political, social personalities and a large number of citizens and followers of Sarwari Jamaat.
He is survived by two widows, six sons and daughters. According to the details, Makhdoom Ameen Fahim had been abroad for the last several months for cancer treatment and had recently returned to Pakistan. After his return to Karachi, he was admitted to a private hospital where he was under treatment for last few weeks.
Makhdoom was senior vice chairman of the PPP and member of the National Assembly from Hala (NA-218). He was the spiritual head of the Sarwari Jamaat. He was born in Hala city of Sindh on 4th August, 1939. He passed his matriculation exam in 1957 while graduated from Sindh University in 1961. He won all the elections of 1977, 1988, 1990, 1993, 1997, 2002, 2008 and 2013, which is a record.
Ailing Pakistan People's Party (PPP) leader Makhdoom Amin Fahim accompanied by his son Jamil-uz-Zaman reached Karachi from Dubai on October 26. He was brought to Karachi in a special air ambulance on his wish to spend a few days with his family and friends in Pakistan. Makhdoom Amin Fahim remained under treatment in a private hospital in Karachi. He was to stay there for a few days after which he was scheduled to fly to England for further treatment.
