Facebook 'safety check' at the ready

A Facebook tool that let people check whether friends were safe will be used more widely in the future, the social network said.
"We care about all people equally, and we will work hard to help people suffering in as many of these situations as we can," Facebook co-founder and chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said in a post over the weekend.
Going forward, Facebook now plans to "activate Safety Check for more human disasters," according to Zuckerberg.
Survivors seeking shelter and people worried about friends or families took to social media.
"Quickly find and connect with friends in the area," a message from the Facebook Safety Check service read. "Mark them safe if you know they're OK."
The feature also allows people to check which friends in Paris have not yet checked in as safe.
