Digital photographs carry a host of extra data with them: everything from the brand of smartphone employed to the exposure date and location where the photo was taken.
The information can be useful, but posted online, it might be embarrassing to tell the whole globe exactly where the photographer was a certain day and time, or what type of phone they can afford.
To automatically remove the metadata before posting, try apps such as Metadata Remover for Android, the German copyright information portal iRights.info advises.
For images from a regular camera, one can delete the data using a free application like IrfanView.
Multiple photos can be edited simultaneously with an IrfanView function called batch conversion. Open the files, remove the check marks next to the EXIF and IPTC data labels and then save a copy of the photos, being sure to keep the same level of quality.
