The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Peshawar offloaded all passengers onboard Shaheen Airline flight NL-786 at Bacha Khan International Airport (BKIA) Peshawar after officials received intelligence information about a bomb suspected to be planted in the passenger plane. Officials at the airport told this scribe that the airline was bound to leave for Dubai when officials received information about a suspected bomb. Soon after, teams offloaded all passengers and searched the aircraft.
"Yes, search is underway but things are unclear since we fear a bomb inside the plane," the officials sources said. An official of Shaheen Air Station denied a bomb threat, saying the flight was suspended for "operational reasons". Civil Aviation Authority sources, however, confirmed the threat and said a search operation conducted. The flight has been evacuated and a thorough search is being conducted of passengers and their luggage. The Bomb Disposal Squad was called in to aid the search operation.
All flight operations at Peshawar airport are currently suspended. "We can't risk people's lives, we are searching the plane at the moment," CAA spokesperson George Pervaiz said. However, soon after officials confirmed a bomb was not found on the aircraft. "Flight operations have resumed at Peshawar airport," a CAA official said.
Earlier, security at Peshawar's Bacha Khan International Airport has been ramped up following a bomb threat aboard a Dubai-bound flight. An emergency was declared on the Shaheen Air International flight NL-786 which was scheduled to depart from Peshawar at 2:30 pm.
Security sources confirmed the flight has been offloaded and a security check is ongoing. Since the Paris attacks which killed at least 129 people, there have been several bomb threats on flights around the world, causing panic among travellers and resulting in temporary delays, after which security at airports around the world has been beefed up. This is, however, the first bomb threat on a flight in Pakistan following the November 13 attacks.
