The construction work on Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Unit in National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) has been delayed as incumbent administration of the institution has failed to send revise PC-1 of the project to Sindh health department, PPI learned on Monday.
An official of health department said that construction work of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Unit in NIVCD had been delayed due to lethargy and slackness of the administration of the institute. He informed that Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah had laid down the foundation stone of the 200-bed Paediatric Cardiac Surgery Unit in the NICVD Karachi on 26th September 2014 and the project was to be completed within two years at a cost of Rs 1.8 billion but unfortunately the construction of the project could not be started as yet despite the lapse of one year.
The construction work on Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Unit was delayed after retirement of Executive Director Professor Khan Shah Zaman as current executive director of institute has failed to send revise PC-1 of the project to planning and development department Sindh on time despite several directives of the health department, said the sources.
They said management has also failed to get vacated residential quarters from employees to use their land for pediatric cardiac surgery unit despite the passage of one year and funds allocated for construction of project would likely be lapsed due to lethargy of administration. Executive Director, National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), Professor Dr Nadeem Qamar, when contacted, said that the PC-1 of project has already been submitted to the department concerned and construction work of pediatric surgery unit will start when funds are released by the government.
