Hub Industrial Area will soon have a modern solid-waste management system on the initiative of Lasbela Chamber of Commerce and Industry's (LCCI) president Maqsood Ismail. LCCI's former president Ismail Suttar, who took up the project with the federal government had succeeded in bringing the UNDP-sponsored solid waste management project to cater to the needs of ship-breaking Industry at Gaddani and the Hub industrial area.
Discussing the proposed solid-waste management project, a meeting of the LCCI held at its secretariat on Thursday was apprised that a team of Switzerland-based UNDP Consultants M/s Sofies S. A. recently visited Hub and Gaddani to undertake a survey of the area to ascertain the volume and types of solid-waste being generated by the Hub industries. The LCCI consultant on environment Saleem-uz-Zaman facilitated the visit of the UNDP's consultant while the Lasbela Chamber's senior vice president Anjum Rafatullah Khan organised a meeting with the LCCI-member industries to seek their suggestions in this regard.
Methods of collecting solid wastes and its proper disposal were also discussed at length at the meeting. The data being compiled will help in designing a modern solid-waste management system at Hub and the project on its completion would help industries to comply with the environmental laws so as to get international immunity for exporting their products.
