Like other parts of the country, Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and other martyrs of Karbala was observed in the provincial metropolis with solemnity and reverence. Various processions were taken out in different parts of the City which were attended by thousands of devotees whereas Majaalis were also held to remember the remarkable sacrifice rendered by Hazrat Iman Hussain (AS) and his companions nearly fourteen centuries ago.
Foolproof security arrangements were made by the provincial government to avoid any untoward incident. According to the details provided by the Punjab Police, 8,000 police personnel were deployed to maintain security at and around processions which were taken out in the areas of Walled City and other parts of the provincial metropolis and concluded at Karbala Gamay Shah.
Besides, it was also the last day of the Urs of Hazrat Ali Hajvery for which special measures were taken by the City Traffic Police to maintain the traffic flow. According to the City Traffic Police, 703 traffic wardens, 30 traffic inspectors and seven DSPs were deployed to maintain traffic flow at the routes of the processions as well as the areas leading to the Data Darbar Complex. Senior police officials also monitored the traffic situation.
