The Supreme Court on Thursday sought a comprehensive report from federal and provincial governments pertaining to devising a strategy for shelter provision to lower strata of society in Pakistan. Resuming the hearing of a Katchi Abadis case, a two-member bench comprising Justice Dost Muhammad Khan and Justice Qazi Faez Isa issued directives to secretaries of federal and provincial finance ministries to come up with details of funds allocated for the cause in their respective jurisdictions.
Besides, the bench asked Attorney General for Pakistan, secretaries of federal and provincial housing ministries, chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) to submit their reports in this regard. Declaring provision of housing facility to the low income citizens of the country the basic responsibility of the state, the bench adjourned the hearing of the case till first week of January 2016.
