LONDON: Benchmark northwest European diesel refining margins firmed on Tuesday, supported by refinery outages.

Industry monitor Genscape reported a diesel-making mild hydrocracker at Total's 338,000 barrels per day (bpd) Antwerp oil refinery had been shut since the evening of Aug. 27. Total did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

ExxonMobil Corp has shut down a gofiner unit at its 190,000 bpd Rotterdam oil refinery after it found a small leak last week, a spokeswoman said.

BP will begin a planned eight-week shutdown of the Horst site of the 265,000 bpd Gelsenkirchen refinery in Germany for eight weeks starting late this week.

Global energy trader Gunvor Group has put on hold plans to upgrade its Rotterdam refinery that intended to make the plant more competitive ahead of new global rules on shipping fuel quality, it said on Tuesday, citing market conditions.
