Facebook promises to go 100% green by 2020
Just like Apple, Facebook too is working towards fighting climate change by aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and run on 100% renewable energy within two years.
Just yesterday, social media firm Facebook declared its plans to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 75% and make all of its operations run on 100% renewable energy by the end of 2020.
In an effort to stop climate change, Facebook has signed contracts for over 3nW (gigawatts) of new solar and wind energy since its first purchase of wind power back in 2013. All of these projects regarding wind and solar energy are made on the same grid as Facebook data centers, which further indicate that these projects will bring jobs, healthier environments and investment to its communities including Sweden, Virginia, Mexico, and Oregon, wrote Facebook.
Apple goes 100pc green with the aim to save Earth
The company claims that it has already met its goal set in 2015 for supporting 50% of its facilities with renewable energy by 2018. Facebook even stated that they achieved this goal a year early, reaching 51% clean renewable energy in 2017.
Many organizations including Apple and Google are now moving towards going green. Back in June, tech firm Samsung too promised to make its operations in Europe, US and China run on 100% renewable energy by 2020, reported The Verge.
