RAWALPINDI: A four-day anti-polio campaign started in three tehsils of the district including Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation and Cantonments areas on Wednesday.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) District Health Authority  (DHA) Dr Muhammad Khalid inaugurated the drive by administering polio drops to children at DHA office.

Talking to media persons, he highlighted the significance of the campaign and said that future of the country as well as children was linked with it.

The CEO informed that around 2196 polio teams including 1500 mobile teams, 217 fixed points, 90 transit points, 187 Union council medical officers and 400 area in-charges are participating in the drive to administer polio drops to 716,132 children less than five years in Tehsil Rawalpindi, Taxila, GujarKhan, Rawalpindi city and Rawalpindi/ Chaklala cantonments boards area.

He said with the coordinated efforts of Government and World Health Organization (WHO), polio workers had been trained to accomplish the target set of vaccinating children below five years of age.

He said staff deployed for the campaign had been instructed that no negligence in this regard would be tolerated.

Khalid advised parents to come forward and play their role to ensure vaccination of their children to eliminate the disease.
