"The United States is encouraged by the recent dialogue between Pakistan and India to bilaterally work out the issues between them to reach diplomatic solutions to some of the thorny problems which the two countries still face." This was stated by the State Department spokesman John Kirby while answering a question at a briefing, here on Wednesday.
"We want to see the discussions continue, so we are encouraged by the recent dialogue between India and Pakistan. It is exactly what we have been strongly trying to encourage," John said. He said the United States wants India and Pakistan to continue to have a dialogue and to discuss and to reach diplomatic solutions to some of the thorny problems which the two countries still face.
When an Indian journalist asked to comment that National Security Advisor Nasir Janjua is having talks with India in the presence of a democratically elected government, John Kirby said it is for the two countries to determine who's going to have what meeting and who's going to sit in on what discussion.
He said as for meetings that Pakistani generals have had in the United States, that's nothing new. "They have been coming to visit counterparts here in the United States for quite some time, as do our military leaders go to Islamabad." John Kirby said, "Our bilateral relations with Pakistan are important, and they are going to continue to be important, not just with the military but with the elected officials as well".
