A Full Court meeting was held on Thursday in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Islamabad under the Chairmanship of the Honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and was attended by Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa, Justice Amir Hani Muslim, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry, Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Justice Sh Azmat Saeed, Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rahman, Justice Mushir Alam, Justice Dost Muhammad Khan, Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik, and Justice Sardar Tariq Masood. Syed Tahir Shahbaz, Registrar, Supreme Court of Pakistan also attended the meeting.
At the outset of the meeting, CJP welcomed the judges participating in the Full Court meeting. The Chief Justice of Pakistan welcomed Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik, and Justice Sardar Tariq Masood on their elevation as Judges of Supreme Court of Pakistan and said that the institution will benefit from their expertise and legal knowledge.
He also added that this Full Court meeting has also provided us an opportunity to say goodbye to Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry who is going to lay down robes of his office on December 14, 2015. He praised the services of judge for the institution of judiciary which will always be remembered in the judicial history of Pakistan.
The judges also lauded the services rendered by Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry as Judge, Supreme Court of Pakistan. They lauded the professional and legal acumen of the judge and praised his lordships devotion and dedication for the cause of justice. They also paid deepest regards to the judge and prayed for his long, healthy, prosperous and productive life after his retirement as Judge, Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The Chief Justice informed the participants that the purpose of the meeting is to take stock of the performance of the court in terms of dispensation of justice and disposal of cases and to deliberate on the issues pertaining to functioning of Court. Deliberating on the issue of institution and disposal of cases in Supreme Court the Full Court noted that during the period from 04.10.2015 to 05.12.2015 the Court decided 3,147 cases against the institution of 2,603 cases, leaving total pendency of 26,599 cases.
The Full Court observed that although there is rising trend in institution of cases yet disposal figure is higher than the institution that shows commitment of Judges towards expeditious dispensation of justice. The Full Court showed satisfaction and also discussed in detail different ways and means for effective functioning of the Court so that dispensation of justice can further be improved.
The Full Court discussed in detail Bar Council's proposal for reducing period of enrolment as Advocate Supreme Court and after detailed discussion unanimously approved that eligibility period of practice in High Court for enrolment as an Advocate of Supreme Court be reduced from 10 to 7 years. The Full Court also deliberated upon at length different requests of Advocates for their enrollment as Advocates-on-Record and allowed the registration of following advocates as Advocates-on-Record belonging to the Supreme Court Branch Registry, Karachi and Quetta.
