A parliamentary panel expressed annoyance over the registration of private schools with the Private Educational Institution Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) without completing the pre-requisites. A sub-committee of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly on Cabinet Secretariat met at the Parliament House Friday. The committee headed by Nafeesa Khattak reviewed the performance of government and private educational institutions of Islamabad.
Chairman PEIRA and Director General Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) briefed the committee. During the briefing, Chairman PEIRA Tassaduq Khan apprised the committee that the pre-requisites for the registration of private school consists of security arrangements, having a library with minimum 3000 books, laboratories equipments and sports facilities.
He said that the private schools are registered after thorough inspection and examining of required documents. Farhana Qamar a member of the committee pointed out that PEIRA had registered private schools which consist of only 2 to 3 rooms. "How PEIRA could ensure availability of required facilities in such small houses?" she asked. In response the PEIRA Chairman said that since he has recently taken the charge therefore he was not aware of previous registration. He, however, assured the committee that PEIRA would not repeat any wrongdoing done in the process of registration in the past and in future every private school would be registered after completing all the formalities.
