Saga Punjab outclassed Saga Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) by eight wickets in the final to clinch the 2nd Saga Premier League (SPL) Women T20 Cricket Tournament title played here at the Qadhafi Stadium, here on Friday. Saga KPK was hot favourite to win SPL final as they won all their three matches in great style and were all set to lift the final but Saga Punjab players played outstandingly and utilised all their skills to overwhelm favourites KPK team.
The main thing which helped Punjab team finish crowned champions was their outstanding bowling as they restricted Saga KPK to 84-10 in 19.5 overs. Ramim Shamim was pick of Punjab bowlers as she put serious threats to KPK bowling line and grabbed 3 wickets conceding only 3 runs. She was ably assisted by Sadia Yousaf (2-10) and Javaria Khan (2-19) while three of KPK players were run out.
Chasing an easy target, sturdy Punjab batting line up also impressed the spectators with brilliant batting as they achieved the target in 10.2 overs for the loss of just two wickets. Javaria Khan not only bowled well but also did well with her bat as she slammed sparkling 47 runs, thus was declared player of the final match. Sana Taj was the other key contributor for Punjab who smashed unbeaten 22 runs.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar M. Khan graced the concluding ceremony of the SPL as chief guest while Saga Premier League chairperson Farzana Saif, vice president Haleema Munir, University of Lahore (UoL) chairman MA Rauf, NCA Director Game Development Aizad Hussain Syed, PCB women wing board general manager Shamsa Hashmi were guests of honour. Speaking at the concluding ceremony, Shaharyar Khan lauded the efforts of Saif Saga organisers for holding Saga Premier League in a successful way.
