Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah on Thursday said that how ironic it is that Dr Asim Hussain's video was provided to the Interior Minister but not to Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah. Talking to media persons in Sukkur, Shah said that Rangers' special powers were not taken away but the party has only underscored the need for taking the 'captain of the aircraft into confidence'.
"How come the federal government is only focused on Sindh and is sparing terrorists and their facilitators in other provinces," he asked. He said Dr Asim Hussain's matter is in court "and the decision would also be of the court." The Opposition Leader appealed to the stakeholders to avoid making Rangers' matter of extension in special powers a controversial one.
Meanwhile, Federal Anti-Corruption Court on Thursday confirmed bail of former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani in ten cases of mega TDAP scandal. Gilani, who is facing corruption charges in the TDAP scandal, along with his supporters, appeared before the court. The court confirmed the bail of the former premier and adjourned the hearing till December 28.
Later, talking to media persons outside the court, Gilani severely criticised National Accountability Bureau, saying it owed an apology to him for serving him a five-year imprisonment in a case in which he was later acquitted. Over Karachi law and order situation, he said his party wants to bring peace in the city, adding that it was the PPP government that had launched military operations in Malakand and South Waziristan. "We will continue to support a military operation for elimination of terrorism," he said. He advised the opponents to negotiate with the government in order to overcome their reservations regarding the Karachi operation.
