An accountability court here on Thursday extended the remand of Dr Asim Hussain, who is in the custody of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), for further investigation, till December 23. Dr Asim Hussain, the chairman, Sindh Higher Education Commission and former petroleum minister of the country, is currently in NAB custody for his alleged role in illegal appointments and award of contracts in the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC).
Earlier, the counsel for NAB also submitted before the accountability court a charge-sheet framed against the former federal minister and on the basis of it he sought an extension in Dr Asim's remand for further investigation. Asim had been detained by the Rangers on August 26 in cases related to harbouring and treating terrorists at his private health facility, Ziauddin Hospital. With the expiry in his 90-day detention on November 26, he was transferred to police custody for further investigations who later withdrew terror financing related charges against the former petroleum minister.
