Polling to elect 17 chairmen, vice chairmen and councillors of different union committees and district council in Hyderabad district were held on Thursday. Polling on these seats was earlier scheduled to be held on November 19 in the second phase of local government elections, but was postponed at the eleventh hour due to some unavoidable reasons.
There were in all 66 candidates for the 17 seats - six of Hyderabad Municipal Corporation's union committee, five of Hyderabad District Council, five of town committee and one ward seat of Qasimabad's Municipal Committee. In all 23 polling stations were set up where over 500 police and Rangers personnel were deployed to ward off any untoward incident. Polling which began at 7am continued till 5pm.
