Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) and the Institution of Engineers Pakistan (IEP) have urged the government to sack the chairman and the secretary of the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) and replace them with engineers instead. The joint demand came on Thursday from Council Chairman Javed Salim Qureshi and institution President Jamshed Rizvi in their joint press conference address.
They said the power authority ought to be run by technicians and accused the chairman and the secretary of being "bureaucratic" and non-technical". Chairman Qureshi claimed that substantial funds of the Nandipur power project had been wasted because of their incompetence. While President Rizvi demanded that the government ought to appoint the engineers, because "in its manifesto the governing-party-led government did give a promise they had never kept.
In another development, Engineer Zamir Ahmad announcing newly elected office-bearers of the Institution of Engineers Pakistan, after being elected for three years, and congratulated them and its newly elected President, Izhar ul Haq. The congratulations also came from Federal Minister for Planning Development and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal.
