Pakistan Innovation Foundation (PIF) had launched Pakistan's first National Innovation Awards to recognize and honour Pakistan's leading innovators for their remarkable achievements. The conference and awards ceremony, under the theme of "Make in Pakistan" was recently held in Islamabad. There were 60 nominees in 12 General Categories and 3 Special Awards for Young Innovative Talent, People's Choice Innovator of the Year, and Life Time Achievement Award.
In his key note address at the conference, Nadeem Hussain, Founder, President and CEO of Tameer Bank stated "I am very proud of PIF's initiative to support and encourage more innovation in our country through a holistic and inclusive approach targeting all relevant areas of development and progress". He further added, "A bank account is not just a service but it is also the centre of gravity for financial inclusion. In a country of 200 million people with very low financial inclusion, we need to develop a sustainable ecosystem that ensures every Pakistani can open a bank account, has access to credit, affordable energy, health insurance and convenient and affordable payment options. Innovation, in all streams, will drive us forward and I am therefore delighted that PIF has taken this initiative at the national level."
The day-long conference concluded with the announcement of winners. Tameer Bank's Easypaisa loans based on telco algorithm for Telenor subscribers won the top award in Fintech category. Tameer's Sehat O Sakoon was the runner-up for the same category for making quality health care easily available for all 'bottom of the pyramid' customers through a hassle-free and cashless treatment.
Expressing his delight, Nadeem Hussain, said, "It is a great honour to be recognized for a service that has direct impact on marginalized societies. We deem these awards a testament of the trust our customers put in us and recognition of our efforts in capitalising technology for positive social change."-PR
