The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) recovered over Rs 7,504 million and initiated around 2,113 inquiries and 900 investigations in the last four years while 752 references were also filed in different cases. Minister for Climate Change Zahid Hamid informed this to the National Assembly on Thursday during the question-hour. He also informed the House that 2,174 inquiries have been completed during the period, from January 1, 2012 to November 30, 2015.
He said the NAB has been actively working to nip corruption in the bud and has been initiating cases regarding mismanagement, irregularities and corruption in government departments. The minister said the government believes in zero tolerance regarding corruption and mismanagement in the public organisations. A total of 2,250 cases have been pending before different high courts including Lahore High Court, Sindh High Court, Peshawar High Court, Balochistan High Court and Islamabad High Court for adjudication, he said.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab Ahmad informed the House that funds have been allocated for the construction of various roads under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. He also informed the House that Lahore-Karachi Motorway will be completed in 30 months with the cost of 680 billion rupees. He said it will be a six-lane project.
Replying to another question, Parliamentary Secretary for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahzadi Umarzadi Tiwana told the House that Pakistan and Iran are engaged in preparing the workable implementation schedule for the project as both sides have not been able to complete their respective segments of the gas pipeline. She said Pakistan has proposed to construct and complete the project within 36 months after easement of sanctions on Iran. She said the first gas flow will be started upon completion of the project. She said that contractual quantity of gas is 750MMcfd.
The parliamentary secretary said that gas curtailment is only being done in Punjab. She said the RLNG supply to the CNG stations has been stopped and the entire gas is being provided to the domestic. To a question, Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanvir Hussain informed the House that 80 percent of the requirements of armed forces are being fulfilled by the domestic defence production while only 20 percent Hitech items are imported to meet the needs of the security forces. He said the country's defence industry is flourishing with fast pace and it is exporting its items of worth millions of dollars to earn foreign exchange.
