The Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat met here on Friday at Parliament House with Senator Talha Mahmood in the chair. The committee considered a matter referred by the House and pointed out by Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed regarding use of some discriminatory remarks by CDA regarding Christian minority of the country while submitting their reply in a case in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Chairman CDA explained that neither any CDA official nor a report had made discriminatory remarks against Christian minorities and media reports misquoted them. He apologised to the Christian minority over hurting their sentiments. The committee directed CDA to release clarification in the media on the issue.
Discussing the present consumption of water in Islamabad and its future needs, the committee was informed that the record of World Bank's feasibility study for supply of drinking water is missing. The chairman directed to submit the report in the next meeting of the committee. The officials of CDA also briefed the committee on the matter of demolition of Khokhas by the CDA in Islamabad. Chairman of the committee said that it was unjust that management of Marriot Hotel, Sarena Hotel and Kitchen Cuisine illegally occupied the green belt but CDA did not take any notice. The chairman further directed to submit the report which had been submitted in the apex court on Khokhas.
