Ministry of Water and Power has decided to upload area-wise power loadshedding scheme on the website of the Ministry along with details of theft and losses from February 2016, aimed at making loadshedding more transparent. In an exclusive chat with Business Recorder, Secretary Water and Power, Younas Dagha said that the Ministry will get data of each feeder besides losses and recovery position and make it public.
"We want that the people of the area should know about feeder-wise supply of electricity, recovery and losses. The purpose of this plan is to intimate the people about main reason for loadshedding in their areas so that social pressure can be put on electricity stealers and defaulters," he added.
In reply to a question, he said a cell will also be established in the Ministry of Water and Power which will receive complaints against the corrupt officials and will take immediate action against them. Younas Dagha further said that the Ministry has also finalised a plan to ensure maximum generation during canal closure period starting from December 25, 2015. With the commencement of canal closure, around 2500MW hydel generation will be out from the system. "We will get maximum generation from public sector plant ie Gencos by using furnace oil and diesel to ensure maximum generation in winter," he continued.
Secretary Water and Power maintained that the Ministry of Water and Power will work keeping in view 2016 as customer service year and for this purpose he will spend the entire January 2016 on this mission. He also told this scribe that Gencos have stocks of 0.3 million tons to 0.35 million tons for power generation in winter, adding that Water and Power Ministry has full capacity at Jamshoro and Muzaffargarh.
"We will get 2000MW from Jamshoro, Muzzfargarh and Kot Addu and Chashma nuclear power plants during winter to get maximum generation at least at peak hours," he added. The Ministry, however, is unhappy with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources for not reducing price of LNG in accordance with the prices of furnace oil which implies power sector consumers are being overcharged. "We are not satisfied with the logic of Petroleum Ministry which claims that spot buying is done many days ahead of arrival. This is a pathetic answer. Spot buying should be comparatively more economical than long-term contracts," he said.
