The Punjab University Academic Staff Association and relatives of the two arrested teachers have demanded that law-enforcement agencies to speed up an investigation and free both teachers, saying the case will provide them with a right to defend it.
On Monday during a press conference at the University Club, association President Professor Doctor Hassan Mobeen Aalam - with Vice President Professor Dr Abid Hussain Chaudhry, Secretary Dr Mehboob Hussain, Dr Ghalib Atta's wife and Dr Aamer Saeed's father-in-law and other relatives who also being present - said, "Despite a lapse of 15 days, no investigation report has been made public and the whole university's image has been tarnished by the media even before any inquiry report."
They said if the law enforcers had any doubt against any teacher, they should call the same individual in a respectable manner as per the law of the land, "our teachers will themselves provide information, if any". Dr Atta's wife claiming her son having a post-raid trauma demanded his release. Dr Saeed's father-in-law, retired professor Saeed Iqbal, who served once at the Islamia College as vice principal, told the media to stop character-assassination. "We are with the armed forces. We are hurt by this style of operation when Aamer was already co-operating with an agency official who had met him a day before," he said.
