"A reference, linked to audit reports during the past year, on accounts of the district governments, is waiting for the chief minister to make a final decision," said the Punjab Assembly secretary on Monday in a written response to a petition by the leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly who had pointed to the absence of reports at the Public Accounts Committee.
On Monday, the Lahore High Court adjourned until January 12 the hearing. The assembly's secretary told the court that since his assembly never received any reports, the committee too ought to have not done so. Advocate Sheraz Zaka representing Opposition leader Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed argued that the reports had neither been presented to the committee nor the house and Section 108 of the Punjab Local Government Act 2013 says, "The audit reports of the auditor general shall be considered by the Public Accounts Committee." He has now sought a court ruling.
