Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chapter has criticised the decision to increase electricity tariff for consumers of Karachi by Rs 0.54 per unit and demanded its immediate withdrawal. JI Karachi chief Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said the performance of the Karachi-Electric (KE) was highly disappointing. He said it was worth asking why the Nepra allowed the KE to increase its tariff by Rs 0.54 despite its poor performance and inability to serve its consumers.
He said the KE has been fleecing Karachiites with over-billing and over-charging. He said perpetual load shedding even in winter season when the electricity demand is low speaks volumes about the performance and ability of the KE. He said it is intriguing why the Nepra allows the KE charging more from its consumers, instead of making it answerable for its misdeeds.
The JI leader regretted that a few days back the tariff of gas was raised by up to 50 percent which is nothing but brutal exploitation of the hapless masses. He said all the promises made at the time of privatisation of the KESC were not fulfilled and the privatisation proved to be a ploy to loot and plunder citizens with impunity. He asked the government to withdraw the increased electricity tariff immediately and provide relief to the masses.
