Sherin Khan, officer in-charge, ILO Country Office, Islamabad, has said that Pakistan has been making sincere efforts towards implementing the European Union's (EU) conventions to get maximum benefits from the GSP Plus status. She was speaking to Business Recorder after a meeting with stakeholders on 'development of industrial relation and labour laws: an impact overview in the context of 18th Constitutional Amendment', here at EFP Secretariat on Tuesday.
She said that the authorities concerned were formulating laws in order to meet the EU conventions related to labour, environment, human rights, and corruption. She said that implementation of the existing laws was still a challenge for the government, however, "we feel that the government is quite serious in complying with the international standards and covenants of GSP opportunity. General Secretary, Employers' Federation of Pakistan (EFP), Faseehul Kareem Siddiqui, said that EFP with the help of the government had succeeded in spreading awareness among the employees and workers regarding their rights and duties.
