The Karachi Port handled 82,179 tonnes of cargo comprising 56,050 tonnes of import cargo and 26,129 tonnes of export cargo including 4,795 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 56,050 tonnes comprised of 40,006 tonnes of containerised cargo; 7,977 tonnes of general cargo; 8,067 tonnes of bulk cargo: 4,695 tonnes of coal and 3,372 tonnes of DAP.
The total export cargo of 26,129 tonnes comprised of 10,025 tonnes of containerised cargo; 2,434 tonnes of cement and 13,670 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 4,795 containers comprising of 3,226 containers import and 1,569 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.
The break-up of imported containers shows 723 of 20's and 1,167 of 40's loaded while 19 of 20's and 75 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 245 of 20's and 214 of 40's loaded containers while 192 of 20's and 352 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were five ships namely Sima Prestige, Ever Radiant, YM Excellence, Ekan Slayang and Han Xin carrying containers, coal and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were four vessels viz. X-Press Kailash, Sima Prestige, Serengeti and Han Xin carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.
There is one ship namely Ever Radiant carrying containers expected to sail on Thursday. There were three vessels viz. Scot Stuttgart, Malhari and Emerald Strait carrying molasses, chemical and coal respectively due to arrive on Wednesday while six vessels viz. Kota Lembah, Robert Rickmers, Bahamas, Shalamar, Bremen Trader and Heilan Spring carrying containers, oil tanker, chemical and steel respectively are due to arrive on Thursday.
