Around 1200 teachers serving at KMC-run schools in the metropolis have not been paid their salaries for the past six months. Concerned teachers talking to APP Sunday said they have been making desperate attempts to draw attention of the relevant authorities towards their plight. "All these efforts seem to have gone in vain," they said.
According to them rallies were staged in front of Civic Centre while written appeals were also submitted to the concerned quarters at repeated intervals yet the problems continue to persist.
A senior teacher Tehzeeb Fatima said no less than 1200 families, including new-born as well as senior citizens, are faced with great hardships as they have no other source of income.
Mehrunisa, working at KMC Primary School Liaqutabad, also expressed anguish and frustration over indifferent attitude of the authorities concerned towards their plight.
The concerned teachers have passionately appealed to the Governor of Sindh, Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebaad Khan and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah to take stock of the situation and help the affected families.
They also urged the Karachi Metropolitan Commissioner to exercise his authority and get their pending salaries released as early as possible.
