Representatives of civil society organisations have urged the provincial government to implement Article 25-A immediately to ensure free and compulsory education for all in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They stated this at a news conference held at Peshawar Press Club, organised by representatives of various non-governmental organisations (NGOs), prominently Khwendo Kor, Action Aid, SPARC, SAP-PK, and CRDO, under the banner of Working Group for Girls Education Initiative (WGGEI), here on Monday.
Nazakat Amin from Khwendo Kor said that the draft bill was already prepared for ensure free and compulsory education for all in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. But, she said enactment of the law is far away to reality in the province, because of pending its endorsement from the provincial Assembly.
She expressed the hope the legislation would enable approximately 2.8 million children, to get free education facility at government run schools across the province. Khalid Mehmood from SPARC said the legislation for free and compulsory education is dire need of the hour, as the reforms process would intensify with implementation of law, besides it would also bring improvement in the education system. He said the enactment of Article 25-A would not only enroll more children in government run schools, but it would also prevent deprivations of children of poor families.
He stressed upon the need to give top priority to education to eliminate all kind of sins from the society, because the education is vital role in progress and development of the country. Aliya Rashid of Action Aid has called for accelerating legislation process regarding provision of free and compulsory education to all in the province. She added the legislation will provide children to their right to education, besides it will bring positive change in the province.
