Journalists, teachers and students on Monday staged a protest demonstration outside Karachi Press Club (KPC) against the Sindh government for showing negligence in arresting the murderers of Professor Waheed-ur-Rehman (Yasir Rizvi) and non-payment of compensation to the bereaved family.
The protestors, including senior journalists, teachers and students of University of Karachi and Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST), carrying placards and banners, shouted slogans against non-payment of compensation to the family of the professor and frivolous attitude towards arrest of the culprits.
Speaking on the ocassion, newly-elected General Secretary of Karachi Press Club, AH Khanzada, said that the murder of Dr Yasir Rizvi after Professor Shakil Auj, showed negligence of the Sindh government. He said the irony was that neither the culprits involved in the murder were arrested after the passage of nine months, nor the family had been paid compensation announced by the Sindh Chief Minister.
Khanzada warned the Sindh government that if the issue of compensation and arrest of the killers was resolved, the circle of protest would be enlarged in future. Another senior journalist, Maqsoof Yousufi, said the government had completely failed to provide justice to people. He said it was the government's responsibility to ensure provision of justice to the people. A senior teacher, Professor Tauseef Ahmed Khan, said that the promises made with the family of Professor Yasir Rizvi were not fulfilled by the Sindh government. He said the teachers and students only wanted provision of justice to the victim.
