Kissan Raaj Tehrik (Farmers' rule movement) Chairman Arsalan Khan Khakwani welcoming the decrease in electricity tariff announced by the Prime Minister for industrial sector has urged the government to grant discounted rates of power to the agricultural sector too.
He said that such a discounted power package will save the dying agricultural sector which provides raw material for the national industrial sector. In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Arslan Khan Khakwani said that it is a good omen to subsidise power for the industrial sector. However, he said that the Prime Minister should also accept the demand of farmers' community which constitute 70 per cent of the total national population and provide a flat rate for tube-wells being used for agricultural purposes. He claimed that thousands of tube-wells were lying closed because of expensive electricity.
